Prompts to get you thinking

These might not inspire a poem, but they should get you thinking.

What sticks with you from a memory?

Voice? Emotion?  Does the memory have sameness?  Or soul?

  • an animal that understands you.
  •  a warm summer trip?
  • a childhood friendship?
  • a great high school memory.
  • a failure?

It might be easier to begin describing what you are looking at.

  • the view out the window
  • the sky changing colors
  • a friend
  • what you see when you wake up

Prompts about Feelings

Uncover the layers of your feelings, of your life.

Write about loss or grief.

Write about excitement and happiness.

What does it feel like when you allow yourself to think about past events?

Think about other people’s lives. What are their stories?

Become aware of noticing other things (even outside of yourself.)
